With all the news of Spider-Man coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, possibly in Captain America: Civil War, as well as the announcement that Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and somehow Chadwick Boseman’s introduction of Black Panther will be making it into the film, the biggest oversight is the inclusion of Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye will be coming onboard for the film.
As many people that are familiar with the Civil War series knows, it is a huge story. The story includes everyone within the Marvel Comic universe, with the exception of the X-Men. The thought of them doing something like this so early on made me think that it will be smaller in scale or a variation of the story, not following the comic much like the title of The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
THR confirmed it while talking about another film he’s working on. Renner claims that he will be working on this movie this spring, which is expected to begin soon. The absence of his character outside The Avenger movies kind of leave him as being more of a glorified extra in the universe. As Mark Ruffalo’s character has only been used in the same medium, his role in the films has been greater.
Joss Whedon, himself, confirmed that he did not know what to truly do with the character in the first film but he gets to be more fleshed out in the sequel, according to Renner himself. As production is coming up for Civil War, it will be interesting to see just how many more characters will come out in the film and the biggest news of all: who will be playing Spider-Man.
