Sam Simon, well known philanthropist and co-creator of The Simpsons, has sadly passed away last Sunday after battling colon cancer. He was 59 years old.
TMZ was the one to break the news stating that Simon passed in his LA home while surrounded by family. An animal rights activist, Simon’s dog was also present.
Al Jean, Simpsons showrunner, confirmed the news this morning saying Simon was a “great man; I owe him everything.” The Sam Simon Foundation, an organization that provides service dogs to those in need, released this statement: “For those of us who knew him, his voice will forever echo in our minds; his sense of humor will continue to make us laugh; and his compassion and generosity will continue to impact our lives.”
Simon was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and has always said the condition was terminal. Simon left his estimated $100 million fortune to his charities.
