Its safe to say that the first two films of the rebooted Star Trek franchise were a bit darker in tone. There was a lot of death, an entire planet was destroyed, cover-ups and backstabbing. While these films were good on their own, many diehard Star Trek fans miss the Trek part of Star Trek. Based on Simon Pegg’s comments to Spinoff Online, we can expect the franchise to get back to its roots.
Pegg spoke about the tone of the next film and how co-writer Doug Jung wants to bring the franchise back to how the TV show was, saying, “[W]e just want to take it forward with the spirit of the TV show. And it’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know. Where no man has gone before – where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation.”
This is a great thing to hear. One thing that I felt was funny about the first two films is they essentially stayed in sector 001 the majority of the time. It would be a lot of fun to see the Enterprise do what the Enterprise does best and explore space a bit more. I’m sure I’m not the only one who can’t wait to see what the new film is about.
Star Trek 3 hits US theaters on July 8, 2016.
