In recent years, Disney has pulled back much of its slate from the San Diego Comic-Con and has kept many of their major projects close to home with their annual D23 Expo fan club. This year will be no exception as they promise “an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at its upcoming film slate” this year, including Marvel and Star Wars movies.
In recent years, especially when Disney acquired Marvel, they have lowered their presence at the summer’s annual San Diego Comic-Con, which has had a noticeable impact on the convention, and started gearing it up for their own event. Since Disney is a powerhouse with their live-action, animated and franchise movies, it makes sense to showcase them the way they want.
The D23 event will take place on August 14 – 16 at the Anaheim Convention Center and tickets are still available, at a discount, until June 30th.
A panel on Saturday, August 15th, will showcase “live-action titles such as Alice Through the Looking Glass and The Jungle Book and films from Marvel and Lucasfilm, along with some very special guests, take center stage.”
You can imagine a larger Star Wars presence, especially since The Force Awakens will drop in December. They even use the event to drop news. We will try to make it out to the event this year and hope you all will too.
