Things keep looking bleak for the Nintendo Wii U as a confirmed title might not make it to the system at all. Project Cars was released on consoles and the PC earlier this month but the developer doesn’t have much hope to make it to the Nintendo console.
Slightly Mad studio head Ian Bell wrote in the Project Cars forums that the Wii U edition is “struggling at the moment”. The current build of the game is “running at about 23FPS,” Bell explained, noting that 720p is the best resolution the developer has been able to achieve.
Keep in mind that Nintendo themselves said the Wii U was as good as anything on the market, at the time. The problem was that it was the waning days of the PS3 and Xbox 360. Not a good benchmark.
“We’re awaiting/hoping for more of a hardware announcement at E3…” he said. Unfortunately, Nintendo said they will not talk about a new console until 2017.
After a fan pointed this out in another forum post, Bell replied: “Honestly, unless we really cut the looks back I think we’re looking to Nintendo’s next console.”
While the game has received mostly modest reviews, it seems Nintendo will fail again with a substandard console which is great to run Mario titles but nothing more. This will be the first time a developer abandoned the Wii U and will unlikely be the last.
