Marvel and DC are currently both involved in restructuring their comic book universes but in completely different ways. On one hand DC is bring back the multiverse and we can expect to see crossover events and different books from different universes in the DC multiverse like the old days. Marvel on the other hand is condensing into one universe after the Secret Wars event. Many are curious what characters are going to make the cut and more importantly who will be center stage.
Marvel has announced a free magazine titled “All-New, All-Different Marvel Preview” that will give us all our first look at what this new universe is going to look like. Available on July 1st, with a digital version to follow soon after, and according to the press release the magazine will be all about “Exciting teams, dynamic characters, deadly villains, dazzling creators and more will be revealed!”
“This is a great way to reward fans who visit their local comic shops,” said Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel in the press release. “The comic industry has undergone a renaissance this past year, starting with the launch of the new ‘Thor’ #1 last fall. Comic shops have reported increased traffic, new customers, and higher sales. Free Comic Book Day 2015 was the biggest and best it’s ever been! We’re thrilled to say thank you by officially revealing the All New, All Different Marvel directly to those customers found in comic shops.”
This is one of the most significant comic book events in a long while with the first issue of Secret Wars seeing the absolute destruction of both the Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe. Replacing the two largest Marvel universes is Battleworld which is built of fragments of each reality that has survived and ruled by Doctor Doom. It’s not a great time for our heroes.
The details of both this new teaser magazine and the new Marvel U itself are still very much in the dark. However it’s a very exciting time to get back into Marvel if you’ve been absent for a while.
