Star Trek fans were crushed when Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock on the original series, passed away in February at the age of 83. A man that has always been respected by the community he helped create and always been a part of the Star Trek universe will be missed.
Slate reports that Nimoy has been honored by having an asteroid named after him. Asteroid 4864 has been officially named 4864 Nimoy in honor of the late actor. 4864 Nimoy is about 6 miles across (10km) and orbits the sun every 3.9 years. It was originally discovered in 1988.
This is a great way to honor a man that helped make science fiction what it is today.
