Many people knew that doing a hard-R Punisher movie would be a hard sell in this day of hard PG-13 super hero movies. Not only the fact that Frank Castle is not a real superhero but a vigilante that not many, if any, in the main Marvel Universe actually like. Remember, this is the guy that killed Peter Parker in the Ultimate Universe. After two failed attempts to bring the character to a live-action movie, he will return in a Netflix series.
Marvel announced on Tuesday that Jon Bernthal will be joining the cast of Daredevil’s second season as Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher. He does have dealings within Hell’s Kitchen and given the events in the first season of the show, it is not hard to see that some vigilantes have taken up his mantle but take it to an area that Matt Murdock is not prepared to go.
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
It would be obvious that The Punisher would not be the villain in the series for the second season but he will add a good degree of tension for a man that has no preoccupation for murder. After the news was announced, Bernthal took to Twitter to confirm everything.
Of course, we will have to wait until 2016 before we can see where the second season of Daredevil takes us. Obviously, with the addition of The Punisher, could that mean the series will go even darker? It is quite possible since the guy is not all that nice. Not only did they announce this casting news but they released the new promo art for season two. What do you think?
