In case you missed this over the weekend, Apple is launching their much touted Apple Music today. In case you have not updated your iOS device to their latest iOS 8.4, which was released today, you will need to download and install that update in order to experience their debut of Apple Music.
According to The Verge, the launch will occur at 11 am ET, as well as the release of iOS 8.4, then the first Beats 1 radio broadcast will behind an hour later at 12 pm ET. Apple had stated that the service would release on June 30th but no time was given.
However, Ian Rogers, senior director of Apple Music, announced the time in a blog post, which he later removed the specific time. Unfortunately for anyone that ever threw something onto the internet, MacRumors managed to see the post and reported it for the world to see.
Later Rogers, know the cat is out of the bag, tweeted that Zane Lowe would be the first radio show and that would begin at noon eastern. They announced that his first guest on the show would be Eminem. What a surprise there.
It will be interesting to see if Apple is able to bring listeners to their station, as many attempts to turn their music service into a social hub have failed. With streaming services like Pandora, Rdio, IHeartRadio and others, it is a crowded field for people to turn to. I guess we shall soon find out.
