The third installment of Star Trek had been sitting in limbo for a while. After it was announced that J.J. Abrams would be leaving the series to focus on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it was rumored that former writer would become the new director of the film, Roberto Orci. He co-wrote the script that was to take it back to its roots. Once the script was turned it, everything on the project went quiet.
Later news leaked out that Orci was out, as was the script for the film. Simon Pegg was tasked to write a new script for the film, which is claims takes the franchise back to its roots of exploration and fun. Later it was announced that Justin Lin, from Furious Seven fame, would be directing the new film. Since then, it had been quite with the only knowledge that it would come to screens in 2016.
Finally, we have official news:
There had been rumors that the new movie had begun filming this past week, shortly after news was announced that Chris Pine and Zackary Quinto would return for a fourth film as well as the cast getting a raise.
It seems the new film will be called Star Trek Beyond, which does not shed any light on the possible plot but that could be a good thing. I think for most fans, like myself, it will be nice to see an original movie that does not base itself on retelling some of their more famous stories. I don’t care what you all say, I actually liked Star Trek Into Darkness.
