BOOM! Studios and Saban Entertainment have announced a team up to bring the Power Rangers back to comics. This new series will be based on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from 90’s television fame.
Mairghread Scott will be taking up writing responsibilities for the series and Daniel Bayliss will be handling the art. The debut will happen during San Diego Comic-Con this July in a series of one-page comics focused on each character of superhero team with each page being “stitched together to form one full story.” As an added bonus each page will feature a pin-up on the backside drawn by artist Goni Montes (RoboCop).
Matt Gagnon, series editor, says the comic is a recreation of what made the mid-1990’s Power Rangers great. “We have big, big plans that will build on the core universe of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. …We can’t give too much away just yet, but the story we’re kicking off with is vast in scope. Fans of BOOM! know we treat the existing properties we collaborate on with a focus on authenticity and quality. That’s the same sensibility we’re applying here.”
Other than the one-shots set to release at Comic Con over at BOOM! Studios’ booth (#2229) there is no release date mentioned for the series.
