It seems that even after DC Comics did a major event and we are now dealing with their new world was not enough to keep Marvel from taking the top spot again in June. Marvel handily beat out DC Comics with a 40.86% dollar share and 43.16% unit share for June. DC Comics managed to bring in a 25.06% dollar share and a 28.03% unit share.
Secret Wars #3 took the number one spot for the month. Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #1 came in second while Star Wars #6 took the number three spot. The only two DC Comics to break the top five this month was Justice League of America #1 and Batman #41, both of which I would have expected high numbers.
Rounding out the bottom half of the top ten was Thors #1, Darth Vader #6, X-Men ’92 #1, Justice League #41 and Groot #1.
Marvel seems to be banking on the performance of Secret Wars and all their alternate universe mini-series like Spider-Man, X-Men and Thors. Not only that but their Star Wars properties are still running strong as Star Wars and Darth Vader comics are always in the top ten.
In graphic novels and trades, Wytches Volume 1 from Image took the top spot with Thanos: The Infinity Relativity from Marvel. Rounding out the top five was East of West Volume 4 (Image), Ms. Marvel Volume 3: Crushed (Marvel) and Civil War (Marvel).
It seems that Secret Wars has the ball rolling for Marvel, but will it be able to keep it going. Marvel has a tendency to falter in the later issues of their event runs. With issue four of Secret Wars hit retailers on July 1st and Renew Your Vows #2 coming on Wednesday, it will be interesting to see if they can keep their momentum going.
