Han Solo Standalone Movie Is Happening

It has always been a big fear of mine that when Disney announced doing solo movies between the new trilogy movies they would choose to make an origin story on more of the characters. Some of the rumored ones included Obi-Wan Kenobi (which I would get behind if Ewan McGregor would reprise his role), Han Solo and Boba Fett. The last one is something we had enough of when we saw the prequels.

I was surprised with the story behind Star Wars: Rogue One when it was announced at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim in April but there was no word on the other film to follow. THR is reporting (which was later confirmed) that the (much feared?) Han Solo solo movie would be coming from Disney and is set for May 25th, 2018.

The Lego Movie and Jump Street directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord will be directing that project. They have been heavily sought after guys and the last rumor had them slated to work on The Flash movie for Warner Bros., which means that is no longer the case as well as a slew of other projects they were set to work on.

With the San Diego Comic-Con slated to open tonight with their Preview Night, and Star Wars to be featured heavily, we can imagine that there will be some talk about it during the con. Lawrence Kasdan (who was recruited to rewrite the JJ Abrams script) and Jon Kasdan are recruited to write the script for the film.

One thing that was made clear in the story was this was not the film that Josh Trank was slated to direct before he backed out earlier this year. Their sources are claiming that they are still looking for a director to bring over that project. Now the big concern will be who will play the younger Han Solo?

Personally, I do not want to see him as a child and his true origins. What fans will want to see is a younger Han doing adventures that we read about in the many subsequent novels after the original film that had earlier adventures and meeting people like Lando. This is a tricky subject to tackle but since both Lord and Miller are fanboys, we may get the Han movie we have always wanted.
