After J.J. Abrams began using the production of Star Wars: The Force Awakens to raise monies for charity, it seems his last child, Star Trek, will be following suit. In the video above, the cast got together to film a special video about a campaign and the winner of said campaign will win a walk-on role in the upcoming film, Star Trek Beyond.
Star Trek: To Boldy Go will support nine global charities that are selected by the cast. Of all the funds received, they will be divided up and spread out among the nine charities. For as low as $10, you could earn a chance to win the walk-on role, which is slated to be released on July 8, 2016.
The campaign began on Tuesday, July 14th and will continue to 11:59 pm PST on September 1st.
As you can see in the video the set of the Enterprise has not changed much from Abrams turns as director, but the addition of Idris Elba to the cast has made it more fun. For true Star Trek fans, this should be a goal to appear in the film that will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the franchise. Now, you can go back and watch the video again. By the way, did Simon Pegg call Chris Pine “thunder nuts”?
