This is one of those “are we really surprised” moment. With the beginning of the new trilogy beginning this December, it was a foregone conclusion that Disney would release a new re-release of the entire sage. You know, so you can catch up on everything before the debut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December. From what we can see, there will be nothing new as far as content goes but the covers will get a facelift.
Even though the Blu-ray edition was released back in 2011, the re-released version will come with new steelbooks because that seems to be a thing. The new sets will feature all six of the first Star Wars movies, and none of the pre-special edition are in the sets, and they will include all previously released audio commentaries from cast and crew.
The steelbooks, as you can see above, will feature Darth Maul, Yoda, General Grievous, Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper (which is the lamest cover) and Emperor Palpatine. Maybe it’s just me, but shouldn’t they have put Boba Fett on the cover of the Empire Strikes Back movie.
The new version will be available on November 10th, at the same time Battlefront arrives and a month before The Force Awakens hits theaters, and pre-orders will begin on August 7th. They, also, announced that if you want to basic collection, without the steelbooks, the “Complete Saga” edition will arrive on October 8th.
