The Peanuts animation is an institution at this point and it’s hard to find someone that doesn’t like it. The recent movie is enjoying some good reviews and people are liking they gang coming back together in a more modern stage. However, don’t expect it to happen again anytime soon.
The Wrap reports 20th Century Fox only acquired the rights to make the one movie and no more. Jean Schulz, the widow of the creator Charles M. Schulz, said his husband would have liked the movie but she still isn’t ready to turn it into a franchise.
“This one took eight years, so maybe we’ll talk again then,” she said. Charles was always “very protective” of the characters he created and flat out refused to have anyone take over the comic strip when he passed. He also ignored many offers from Hollywood in the past.
The first movie was made with some hesitation. “They convinced us that they understood his vision for ‘Peanuts’ and that they would be true to its spirit,” she said.
Let’s hope more can be made with the same level of respect in the future.
