Back in 1987 Coca-Cola introduced Ecto-Cooler; a drink tie-in for the Ghostbuster franchise. It had a more cartoony version of Slimer for its mascot and is remembered by most as being delicious, as well as green.
Fast forward to 2015 and the Coca-Cola company has renewed the trademark for the rights to the name. Does this mean the drink is about to make a comeback?
There is no guarantee that Coca-Cola is going to be making the Hi-C drink again however let’s make two points that lean towards yes. The new Ghostbusters movie is about to release in July of 2016 and marketing has always been a powerful tool to sell a variety of different things. However, movie tie-in soda doesn’t really have the same appeal as it once did.
There is also Coca-Cola’s recent renewal of another classic drink; Surge. Many 90’s kids remember Surge as Coke’s answer to Pepsi’s Mountain Dew. We’ll just have to wait and see how it all pans out however I wouldn’t be surprised if Ecto-Cooler’s make their way to store shelves next year.
