Netflix Scores With The CW On Streaming Deal

If you have been a fan of some CW shows, you know that unless you DVR the episodes you only have a certain amount of time to catch up with it on Hulu. Hulu had a deal with CW to only host the previous five episodes, thus making it different for people that may have fell off the series to catch up. Not to mention that the entire season would only debut on Netflix when the newest season debuted. It seems that all of that stops now.

Netflix has struck a deal with The CW to drop their entire season of the series just eight days after the season finale, according to Collider. It is very similar to the deal ABC Television has with Netflix in regards to Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.

Naturally, the deal includes all the series that debut/return in the 2016/2017 television season. The silver lining in this situation is that it will include all shows that wrapped in the 2015-2016 season. That means all the new shows like Legends of TomorrowThe 100iZombie, and more.

“Netflix members in the US love the great lineup of series from The CW, and we are thrilled to extend the relationship and bring those shows to our members exclusively now, just eight days after their season finales,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. “This is a great step forward with a valued network partner to give fans exactly what they want, when and how they want it.”

“Since the initial landmark deal in 2011, The CW’s programming has enjoyed tremendous success and increased exposure through Netflix, and our new agreement not only continues but enhances this valuable relationship,” Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. “The CW has positioned itself for the future by transforming into a true hybrid network, rooted in broadcast while fully embracing the digital and streaming habits of the viewers.”

This is a huge benefit for fans that like to binge the entire series prior to the new season. Not only that, fans will be able to rewatch past episodes to decide whether to purchase the entire season or not, as well as binge an entire season to determine whether to follow the new season when it debuts. No date as to when this takes effect but we can imagine soon.
