As many of you knew, Lucasfilm and Disney were planning to drop the latest Rogue One: A Star Wars Story during prime time for the Olympics. We have seen the teaser trailer a while back and since it is only four months till the release of the film, it would make sense that the studio would get the buzz started. Waiting four months till the films release is cutting a bit close. I mean, we had footage of Captain America: Civil War and Suicide Squad out a year in advance.
As you can see in much of the trailer, there is new footage as well as expanded stories, featuring the newest additions to the Star Wars universe. Not to mention that end shot though. As director Gareth Edwards stated during Star Wars Celebration, Vader will feature but he will not be the bad villain of the piece. That is understandable because that would make it more of fan service than it would be of an original story.
The footage is dark and strong, emotionally, to provide you with enough information that this will be a dark Star Wars story but more powerful. I mean, let’s not deceive ourselves to think that their mission will fail but since many of these characters are new – how many will survive? I guess we will have to wait and see.
